For Georgia it was a great start of the Adidas European Championships 2013 taking place in Budapest (25-28 April). Georgia continues the success of last year but now already with two gold medals at the first day.

In Croatia, during European youth Judo Championship Georgian athletes won 1 golden, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals. It was a big success also for Georgian Sambo (under 16) team who won 5 golden, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in Thailand.

Georgian judo team will take part in London Olympic games in the following composition: Betkil Shukvani (60kg) Lasha Shavdatuashvili (66kg), Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg) Avtandil Chrikishvili (81kg) varlam LIparteriani (90kg) levan Zhorzholiani (100kg) and adam okruashvili (100kg).

Georgia, Tbilisi. On 29th of June, Vladimer Vardzelashvili, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia host cadet judoists, who were returned from their successful trip to the European Championship. The tournament was held on 22-24 of June in Bari, Montenegro.

Olympic Challenge - the project provided by Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia runs for 3rd year in a row and arranges sporting events for youth in different regions of Georgia. Kareli hosted the tournament named after Olympic champion Shota Khabareli who comes from the village of Dzlevisjvari in Kareli district. Similar tournaments named after Olympic champions were already held in Akhmeta (Zurab Zviadauri) and Gori (Shota Chochishvili).

More than 200 judokas from 26 countries were participating in Tbilisi World Cup which have ended on January 30. Georgians were able to win 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals. Ambako Avaliani was first to climb to the highest position on first day of the tournament winning in the 73 kg weight category. 2 more medals were won in 81 kg where Georgian final took place. Avtandil Chrikishvili was able to defeat Davit Karbelashvili and claimed the gold.

Judo World Masters took place in Baku on January 15-16. Six judokas from Georgia took part in the tournament but left Azerbaijan capital without medals. Davit Asunbani (60 kg), Levan Tsiklauri (81 kg), Levan Zhorzholiani (100 kg) and Zviad Khanjaliashvili (+100 kg) lost their fights in the first rounds while Amiran Papinashvili (60 kg) and Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) have won once and lost in quarterfinals claiming the 5th place.

Madrid, Spain held the World Judo Cup on June 5-6 where Georgian athletes claimed 3 medals, one of which is the gold won by Irakli Tsirekidze (100 kg). Tsirekidze went past French, British, Slovenian and Brazilian judokas on his way to the final, where he met Ukrainian Jevgenijs Borodavko, who was defeated with Ippon. Bronze medals were won by Amiran Papinashvili (60 kg) and Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg).

The Azerbaijan capital, Baku was hosting European Youth Judo Championship at May 1-2 where Georgian judokas claimed five gold medals. Liparteliani (90 kg) won silver medal in individual competition too, but as he said, he doesn't consider the second place as a success and the team gold is what everyone should congratulate him with.

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili congratulated Georgian National Team that have managed to win the team competition in Vienna, Austria and became European Champion. Saakashvili mentioned the great amount of work that was done since 2004 to improve overall situation in Georgian judo.
